- The Power of Appreciation: Audio Interview
with Mike Robbins
It comes as no surprise that many charitable organizations are
being impacted by changes in the economy. The Non Profit Times reports
that expenses
were up for many non profits in 2007 and of course this is a
trend we've continued to see in the first half of 2008.
Organizations where transportation is a vital part of their mission
are definitely being hit because of high
gas prices. Another article from The NonProfit Times reports
that fuel costs are especially hitting food
banks.
Here in my local area we have already had a major industrial employer
begin a facility closure and mass layoff and a couple of retailers
close. It's a situation that's being played out all across America.
But wait, let's switch gears here. Yes non profits are facing tough
economic times. On the other hand with a difficult challenge often
comes a positive opportunity. Solutions can be found with creativity,
collaboration and maintaining the vision for your cause.
At Step by Step Fundraising our goal is to provide practical advice
in a positive framework. This month we have a series of articles
that will give you some ideas and resources for Fundraising in Challenging
Times. The first two installments in this series are featured in
today's newsletter. Additional articles will be published during
the remaining weeks of June.
"Focusing on the Good Stuff" as author Mike Robbins puts
it, is especially important when facing challenges. In an audio
interview Mike shares many tips for appreciating your non profit
staff and supporters.

had to exist in this challenging reality for a number of years now.

Recession Proof Fundraising
by Anisha Robinson Keeys
Sales guru Zig Ziglar said, “If you have enough push, you don’t
have to worry about the pull.” No matter what you believe about
the current economic outlook, if you are a not-for-profit, cutbacks
on the part of grantmakers and donors will likely affect your ability
to raise funds requiring you to push that much harder to maintain
financial stability.
