Ice Cream Fundraisers
It’s summertime, summertime! (Okay, at least here in North America.
Cheers to our Aussie readers!) Yes here in North Texas we have already
reached our first 100 degree day last week, and if the old Farmer’s
Almanac is correct it certainly won’t be the last.
Days like this make me think about lazy summer afternoons and a snow
cone or ice cream treat. Speaking of ice cream… there’s
several great ways that your non profit organization can create a fun
ice cream social to raise some money. These events are great for summer,
but also work well in the spring and fall.

Last month I did an amazing interview with Marc Pitman, fundraising
coach and director of the Inland Foundation in Maine. Have you had a
chance to listen to this audio yet? If so, take a moment to rate it
in this Short
3 question survey
In this interview Marc revealed some of his strategies for success:
The “Get REAL” system for asking for donations
Strategies for recruiting and developing a strong board
Tips on how to make new contacts
The formula for knowing if someone is a good prospect
How to know how much money to ask for
How to ask for money without feeling like you’re begging!
How to turn a one time gift into an annual pledge
….And much more.
You can listen to this free audio seminar online or download to listen
at your computer or MP3 player. There’s also a handly little worksheet
to help you keep up with all the great information presented.

Coming soon: Sample Fundraising Letters!
Earlier this summer I completely revised my Step By Step Fundraising
Letter Guide. Now it’s truly a step by step system to help you
write your own fundraising letters. It’s really easier to write
a letter than you might think.
One strategy that has always helped me write is looking at as many
writing samples as possible. Whenever I’ve been on the job hunt
I poured over sample resume and cover letter books. It really helped
to see examples of formats, styles and yes…even actual wording.
A few choice phrases and words from examples added to your own writing
can really enhance a letter!
Right now there are a couple of sample
fundraising letters posted. But I know when you begin writing a
letter it’s best to look at several letters.
That’s why next week I’ll be posting another sample
fundraising letter on the website. This one will be different than
the walk letters already available.
So eventhough I’m still feeling a bit lazy from the 4th
of July holiday, I’ll be working on this letter and posting it
online next week. I’ll also send out a quick email when it’s
ready.
Again if you haven’t gotten a chance to read the writing guide,
be sure to download a copy. Even if you are using samples this will
help you write the best letter and tailor it to your audience:
